Marlando the Magnificent
The story of Marlando the Magnificent is one quite sad It's about a magic trick gone bad. It happened forty-three years ago At Marlando's last magic show. He said, "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my wife to the stage. For my next trick I will put her in this cage, Lower down this satin sheet from above And when I remove it she'll become a dove." Marlando raised up his magic wand high into the air. The people in the audience just sat on the edges of their chairs With baited breath, anticipating. But he opened his mouth and said the wrong thing. Marlando the Magnificent made his true love disappear. He hasn't seen her in years. She was supposed to become a bird But he used the wrong magic words. Poor Marlando could not believe his eyes And the people in the audience themselves were quite surprised. That beautiful young lady that was just standing there Had now vanished into thin air. Right away Marlando began to panic For he had not yet learned that trick. Someone in the audience shouted out "murder!" But he said, "I love her and I never meant to hurt her." Marlando was arrested and quickly prosecuted. The judge's decisions went undisputed. Now he was in quite a bad position But his only crime was being a lousy magician. The story of Marlando the Magnificent is sad to tell For all that time he sat alone in his cell, And after practicing the same trick for forty-three years He finally made his wife reappear. © André Villoch
