Lowlife
I've heard the philosophers, I've heard the maestros, the teachers I've heard the shaman, guru, and enlightened preacher I've heard a drunken man at the end of the bar Say "just remember to breath, they're gonna know who you are" And I take it all in, that is I take what I can But at the end of the day I gotta be my own man And what I've gained from my own private study Is: Be good to each other and love everybody And I'm a lowlife on a high road Where I'm going I don't know But when I get there, I'll send you a letter Full of good news and say, "I'm feeling much better" I go page to page just trying to figure it all out But at the end of the day I'm still filled with doubt And what am I to say? Am I really so unfit? Well, I've already burned my day; I'll have to sleep on it And so I take it all in, that is I take what I can But at the end of the day i gotta be my own man And what I've gained from my own private study Is: Be good to each other and love everybody And I'm a lowlife on a high road Where I'm going I don't know But when I get there, I'll end you a letter Full of good news and say, "I'm feeling much better" And I'm an elephant on a tightrope I'm a square peg in that round hole And when I get to where I'm going I'm gonna review all I know And say, "I'm feeling much better Today" I read and read and read everything there is to know about us It still leaves me feeling like a modern day Dr. Faustus And all of these pages I turn and turn And I cannot recall one thing that I've learned And I'm a lowlife I'm a lowlife I'm a lowlife I'm a lowlife and I feel that I'm that I'm a lowlife on a high road Where I'm going I don't know But when I get there, I'll end you a letter Full of good news and say, "I'm feeling much better" And I'm an elephant on a tightrope I'm a square peg in that round hole And when I get to where I'm going I'm gonna review all I know And say, "I'm feeling much better Today" © André Villoch
