Black Crow Beautiful

She doesn't know me cause I'm not from around here
She thinks she'll know me better this time next year
The things she gave me,
The gum wrapper roses and gas station jewelry
She doesn't know me cause I'm not from around here

She would take photographs of long neglected garden scenes
On January phone calls she would interpret my dreams
I can't answer
Whether she should write, draw, paint, or be a dancer
She doesn't know me cause I'm not from around here

She's a black crow and she's beautiful
And every time she sees me coming, she flies away
She wants something meaningful
And every time I see her coming
I drive away

We're sitting on the floor for lack of chairs in her room
She said, "When you gotta go?" and all I could say was "soon"
I can't get past that,
The beauty of the clutter on the dresser of a pack rat
She doesn't know me cause I'm not from around here

There once was a crow that would light on my fire escape
I wanted it to know that I would always try to make it feel safe
She'd say, "You won't get far,
You'll always be the face on a voice with a guitar
You don't know any better cause you're not from here"
